The Third Terminology Summit was held in Brussels on 13-14 Novermber, 2006, and was widely regarded as a success. More than 150 people participated, including many young people – the terminologists of the future. We have received much positive feedback from people who found the occasion informative, stimulating and enjoyable. For the success of this occasion we wish to thank the members of the outgoing Board as well as our speakers, the helpful and efficient staff at Institut Marie-Haps. Our special thanks to Arvi Tavast who was busy with his camera during the summit and you can view the results by clicking on Photo gallery.
Invited speakers treated the four themes below and the texts are currently being checked and will be issued on the Web site shortly.
- Terminology Policies and Planning
- Major problems with minor languages
- The Terminologist in Profile
- Different collaborations for different needs
A new departure in 2006 was the instigation of a “Terminology Week” and in this case the summit formed the first part of that week in Brussels while the remaining events took place in Antwerp, comprising the NL-Term conference and the TermNet workshop. Again, feedback about the “Terminology Week” concept was very positive and we hope to continue the tradition.
