VI EAFT SUMMIT
Sixth European International Terminology Summit
The sixth European and international Terminology Summit was locally organized by The Language Council of Norway (Språkrådet) in collaboration with The European Association for Terminology (EAFT). The summit took place on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th October this year at the Soria Moria hotel and conference centre located in the Holmenkollen hill on the outskirts of Oslo.
On the day before, Wednesday 10th October, there were at the same place two pre-conference events: an international workshop on national term banks and a national basic course in terminology.
EAFT awards ceremony and GA
Friday afternoon the conferment of the two International Terminology Awards marked the closure of the summit. Immediately thereafter the EAFT General Assembly was held. Fore more information, see EAFT awards section.
The Summit commenced with a keynote speech on the main topic. Subsequently four subtopics dealt with in four consecutive sections, two sections each day. The subtopics were, in the following order:

Presentations and conclusions at the Symposium on National Languages and Terminology in higher education, sciences and technology in Athens
The presentations made at the Symposium on National Languages and Terminology in higher education, science and technology are already available. The event was organized in Athens, Greece, on 7th November 2013 by the Hellenic Society for Terminology ELETO, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Cyprus and EAFT in the frame of the European Civil Society platform. Mrs Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, welcomed and encouraged the participants via a video connection. Check also the conclusions and the recommendations presented in a Final Open Debate at the end of the Symposium.
We are sorry to communicate that Rosa Colomer, EAFT secretary and EAFT ex-president, died on Tuesday, after ten months of unfair fight against cancer. Rosa was in love with the sea, especially the Minorcan one. In these moments of grief, her colleagues would like to share with you this Catalan poem: “La fruita d’or, llunyania. —Deixa enrere el record de la perduda tarda. Deixa enrere la veu de la muntanya.
