Sessions and confirmed speakers

The overall topic for the summit is: Terminology – Innovation and Sustainability.

Following the pandemic and last Summit and its theme “Terminology in Challenging Circumstances”, we wanted to focus on more positive issues for this Summit. So, we chose Innovation and Sustainability. These broad subjects will allow us to reflect on and discuss what is new and exciting in the world of terminology, but also on what is still valid and interesting to keep doing. As an example of the first, artificial intelligence (AI) has become part of our private lives and working lives – and terminology work is no exception. How does it affect terminology work and how do terminologists handle it? On the other hand there also seems to be a renewed interest in history of terminology and e.g. Wüster and this could be discussed under the heading of sustainability, where also the terminology of sustainability itself could be in focus.

There will be three sessions covering different subtopics.

INNOVATION

Innovation in terminological data structuring
The influence of the terminology awareness of mass media: best practices that foster the use of correct terms
AI and its impact in terminology
ChatGPT
Innovative resources, projects and research

SUSTAINABILITY

Terminometry. Implantation and the influence of the media
Terminology and return on investment
Domain loss, minority languages, endangered languages
Gender-sensitive language and terminology

ROUNDTABLE: LEARNING FROM THE PAST APPLYING TO THE FUTURE

Sustainable innovation: what we can learn from the past
Looking back from today’s perspective
People who have left a legacy in terminology and their views regarding the new challenges

In each session there will be guest speakers, who at the end of the session will make up a panel and answer some preprepared questions, followed by a general discussion.

There will be also an open session (session 4) addressed to those professionals who want to share their experiences on the general topics proposed in a set time limit.
