Textile Glossary

The glossary below includes terms of textile terminology given in multiple issues of the Danish Tidsskrift for Textilteknik. The journals were published by Danmarks Tekstiltekniske Forening ("Denmark's Association for Textile Technique") in the 1940s and 50s. Some of the journals include messages from Terminologicentralen in which The Danish Committee for Textile Terminology issues a proposed terminology for terms regarding textiles (wool, spinning etc.).

Textile Glossary

The glossary covers the 9 proposals published by Terminologicentralen in Tidsskrift for Textilteknik from 1951 to 1956. Note that some proposals are published more than once due to revisions of some of the terms. The sources used for the glossary (so far) are listed at the bottom of the page. The glossary is still a work in progress and we expect to add more sources of textile terminology to the database in the near future.

The textile glossary contains mainly terms of fibres and yarns gives and we are very proud to present this historical material and give a searchable form into the material by this airtable database. Other project pages at www.traditionaltextilecraft.dk as the photo archive of the Danish well renowed researcher Margrethe Hald is searchable in the same way. We do diachronic terminology work at CTR since 2009 and it is a follow-up to the Termwiki  textilnet.dk (www.textilnet.dk) reflecting the textile collections in Danish museums and the curators files about them – mainly around the trade of the textiles.
