Vukol Beridze Association of Terminology of Georgia

Vukol Beridze Association of Terminology of Georgia has been established in 2017, on June 27 in Tbilisi. Our association has been a member of the European Association for Terminology (EAFT) for 5 years. The initiators of creating of the accosiarion are the researchers of the department of scientific terminology at TSU Arnold Chikobava Institute of linguistics. The Department of Scientific Terminology has existed at the Institute of linguistics since 1941. The first head of the department of scientific terminology was the famous Georgian terminologist Vukol Beridze, after whom the newly founded terminological association was named. In this department together with specialists in various fields, Georgian specialized terminology dictionaries were created. In 2013 has been established annual conferences in terminology. In 2018, 2020(online) and 2022 the International Conferences – „Terminology - Heritage and Modernity" were held. In 2014 scientific journal „Terminological Issues“ has established. Since 2015 the department is working on creation of Georgian TermBank.

The President of EAFT Henrik Nilsson responded to the membership of the Georgian terminological Association in the European Association: “We are very happy that you want to join the European Association for Terminology! We are constantly looking to expand and you will be our first member from Georgia...We hope that our members will contribute to the newsletter, participate in the events that we organize, and support and promote the organization in whatever way possible”. Mr. Henrik Nilsson participated in all three international conferences held in Georgia: 2018, 2020 (online), 2022. During his visit in Tbilisi he met with members of Vukol Beridze Association of Terminology of Georgia. Joining EAFT enabled Vukol Beridze Association of Terminology of Georgia to get better acquainted with European terminological work, European term banks and terminological standards.
